A well-rounded creative professional with a passion for anything creative as well as the advertising industry. In my time in the industry, I’ve had the privilege of working with local as well as global brands, working with tight deadlines, strict brand CI guides and diverse teams.

With a BA in Creative Brand Communication: Multimedia from Vega: School of Brand Leadership as well as a number of years in the advertising industry in both a full-time and independant capacity, I believe that I have the essential tools for working as a highly functional creative professional with both strategic and creative execution experience, operating as a valuable asset to any business entity.

I have experience in multimedia design, graphic design and content creation — which encombases a wide range of skills. During this time I have had the privilege of growing my personal brand in two different areas. I found a passion for design and photography from a young age and grew that passion into a wedding photography business that has seen me shooting weddings all over South Africa. I continue to book weddings and I believe this will always be a passion of mine. I also have taken my experience in graphic design and marketing and applied it to a number of business clients. I’ve helped brands market themselves to their audience through the considered and strategic creation and implementation of high quality executed content for their marketing efforts and brand development. My aim as an independent multimedia designer has always been to take brands into their full potential and with the knowledge on how to develop a brand from the ground up and I service clients based on that. Creating content for websites, social media, traditional advertising and brand identities. Linking it all the way through each of their touch points and creating strong and healthy brands.

Also, I have freelanced for TwoAM Creative Advertising Agency in Cape Town in the time that I’ve relocated to the Western Cape in 2019. I assisted them on the Hasbro and Wild Africa Cream account with regards to social media content creation and campaign Key Visual development.

Through my independant work as a multimedia designer, I applied for a position at Barrows Global in Durban. They hired me as a contracted designer on a year long fixed term contract that saw me exposed to the retail advertising industry. Here I had the privilege to work on global brands and campaigns, localising communications from a global campaign to fit a South African market as well as assist them in starting up a digital focused project within a traditional advertising setting called “Connected Store” that is currently operating in TOPS at Spar, the Spar Personal Care category and Pick n Pay.

VEGA: SCHOOL OF BRAND LEADERSHIP

During this time, I underwent a 3 year BA degree in Creative Brand Communication with a Multimedia specialization. I worked on real life brand communication issues within the Brand Challenge module that is provided through Vega. In 2016 I worked on RAGE Festival as the lead Multimedia Designer, where my team was placed in the top 3 for our brand solution on increasing demographic attendance to RAGE festival in Ballito, Durban from both the Western Cape and Gauteng. In 2017 I worked on an NPO named Interface KZN, again as lead multimedia designer, where we helped rebrand the organization and help them into a direction that helped increase awareness with very limited budget.

A notable moment in my studying career was when I was selected to participate in the 2017 Design Indaba in the second phase of participants as an emerging creative, unfortunately, due to time constraints and other commitments I was not able to attend and participate and is one of my biggest regrets during this time of my career.

I worked as a creative intern for this small company for a few months and this is really where I got the idea of making a career out of advertising and honing my skills as a creative professional. I was exposed to social media marketing for the first time and was a production assistant on many corporate videos as well as music videos in Cape Town.

At the end of my high school career in 2012, I moved to Cape Town from Durban to take a gap year and volunteered at Lifechangers church while I figured out what it was that I wanted to devote my energy towards with regards to my full-time career. It was here that I began playing around in photoshop to create graphics for youth events and what sparked a passion in me with regards to content creation.

BEEFEATER GIN


The objective for this campaign, was to ensure that the brand stood out as much as possible in a saturated retail environment. With the launch into the South African market, the client required us to keep to their brand guidelines as well as pushing the boundaries to ensure that the objective was achieved.

Research in the retail environment shows that the use of copy heavy advertising is not conducive to attracting a shoppers attention in a retail space, there needs to be a hook to grab the consumers attention and with that in mind and the base of what we worked off, we were able came up with the direction of big and flashy visual graphics in order to grab the shoppers attention by using the brand’s already quite ‘loud’ brand identity. Then allow a sleek and well designed visual execution to draw them in and get them over the line of making a purchase.

The client also wanted to drive mixability of their product as the G&T craze was on the rise and it felt natural for the brand to stock the unit with not only the Beefeater product but with mixability options as well.

Both elements were executed myself.

SOWETO GOLD


As Soweto Gold was entering into the Kwa-Zulu Natal market, they needed to create awareness within the province. The aim was to take the essence of the brand and their very strong ‘Soweto’ sway and translate that into a local market such as Kwa-Zulu Natal (and could be applied to where ever they chose to break into.)

We chose to use their claim of “born Ekasi” which is a phrase known by those who come from the Soweto township (that translates into “born in community”) and hone in on the aspect of community.

We localised the on screen content all the way down to the store it was in and spoke directly to that COMMUNITY. We spanned this effort over 30 stores in Kwa-Zulu Natal. The unit as a whole communicated the brand in a consistent way.

All elements were executed myself.
